This month’s blog post topic is CCTV. We’re going to discuss a recent installation, the benefits of having CCTV, and the importance of maintaining your systems.
We recently completed the installation of a CCTV system for a local charity who were looking to better manage and monitor their site. We conducted an initial site survey where we walked the site discussing with them what type of system they would like and the areas in which they’d like to cover. Following the survey we put together a site plan that detailed the camera location and a proposal which we believe was a reflection of what they were looking for by offering a cost-effective, professional solution. With all of our quotes, you get a full breakdown of our proposed solution, what you can expect from the system, and how it will work for you.
For this particular client, we proposed the installation of a 16-camera Dahua system to cover the majority of their perimeter as well as some internal areas. The client agreed to our proposal and welcomed us back to complete the installation shortly after. We expect the system to achieve up to 30 days of recording with footage available to view across both local and wide networks using the free issue Dahua APP for your smartphones and tablets. Additionally using free issue desktop VMS software you can view your system on a desktop or laptop PC connected to the internet
Our installation was completed over three days and on the final day the system was commissioned and handed back to the client who we had trained on how to use their new system.

What are the benefits of CCTV?
To ensure your business, site, or home is protected you must have a robust and fit-for-purpose CCTV system. By having a professional system in place it could help;
- Crime Prevention
- Deterring Vandalism
- Handling Disputes
- Monitoring Staff
- Reduce Insurance Claims and Premiums
- Peace of Mind
Most intruders will target sites where there is a lack of security, and even if you do have an intruder alarm for example this may not stop them as they can’t see it. The presence of CCTV is a visual deterrent and will discourage them from acting as they will not want to be caught on camera. The same applies to deterring vandalism, seeing a CCTV camera could make them think twice about acting before thinking.
Monitoring staff isn’t just about watching people at work, some businesses have legitimate reasons for having it in place.
– Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures
– Keeping employees safe
– Preventing staff misconduct
Peace of Mind is often an overlooked benefit of CCTV systems but is very important. Having the ability to monitor your premises from one device, eliminates the worry about not catching any incidents that happen outside of work hours.
CCTV System Maintenance

Maintaining your CCTV system is essential to ensure optimal performance, during our visit we carry out the following tasks
– Clean lenses and apply SpiderEx
– Check for wear and tear
– Check cables for damage
– Test cameras to ensure they’re all working
– Adjust the positioning of cameras where required
By maintaining your system you can
– Prevent failures and/or downtime
– Extend the lifespan of your system
– Reduce callouts
– Keep your property safe
How often should you maintain your CCTV System?
The maintenance your system requires is dependent on the camera locations, are they easily accessible, and are they vulnerable to damage? We recommend whoever is in charge of the CCTV for your site completes a site walk at least once a month to check for any visual damage and that they are all live on the VMS system.
We recommend that you have your systems serviced by a professional annually as they will be able to conduct more in-depth tests increasing the lifespan of your system.
