The UK Government will be introducing legislation to include EV charging points on all new-build homes and offices in England as of 2022. MP Rachel MacLean has announced that as of 2022 all new build homes and offices will have to include EV charging points as standard on all new-build homes and offices in England. Separate legislation will be required for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This announcement comes after research found that there are 25,600 public charging points spread across more than 16,000 locations but with the way things are moving predictions suggest there will need to be 10 times more points come 2030. The new legislations mandates that new chargers must be “smart devices” such as Zappi and HyperVolt to name a few, these enable owners to charge their vehicles at off peak times to save money and avoid overloading the electricity grid. Ordinarily chargers will be set to send power to the cars during night when the demand is low.
